In the last ten years or more, Afrobeat has grown so big from a continental thing into a worldwide sound, with great artistes like Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran and the beautiful Beyoncé showing the afrobeat genre in their music. Burna Boy’s performance at the New York’s Maddison Square certified him as the first Nigerian Artiste to organize a concert at the great square.
The show began with a welcome speech from rapper Busta Rhymes who appreciated the crowd which was filled with West Africans for their great display of love and culture when he visited Africa. He appreciated Burna Boy for his new achievement and the way he keeps showing up in the global music industry.
Burna Boy performed with his band and a Senegalese singer, Youssou N’Dour. He performed a song from his album which he released in 2020 titled “Twice as Tall”. The song he performed from the album was “Level Up” and he performed it with elaborate lighting and dancers as sounds of African drums resounded the arena.
The show got more interesting when fans were singing along with him, shouting out the lyrics and female fans threw several bras on him while he was on the stage and he kept asking them for more.
Later during the show, Burna Boy announced his forthcoming album titled “Love, Damini,” which he said it will be released on his birthday, July 2, as the fans screamed with excitement. He then sang a song from the album, which features Toni Braxton’s “He Wasn’t Man Enough for Me.”
