Michael Jackson was more than an entertainer, he was a phenomena, brand, grace, style, class, hope, courage, love, and most importantly was a symbol.
Today makes it fifteen years since his glorious transition to glory like all the great before him and the world has never been the same again. This moment in time means more to me than you can ever imagine, this happens to be my birth month and for all intents, I view Michael Jackson as the greatest entertainer of all time.
He did not just set the standard he was the standard. The ideal that all musicians, entertainers, dancers and creatives aspired to. He impacted countless lives with his soulful voice, breathtaking moves, revolutionary fashion trends and philanthropical activities to humanity.
He broke barriers, united races and served as a beacon of a what a better world would looked like if we all could get out of our ways and be the change we desired. He served as an inspiration to many musicians worldwide, including superstars like Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, and the African giant Burna Boy, as well as icons like Usher, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, and legends like Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, Beyoncé Knowles, and Pharrell Williams.
However, Jackson’s legacy is not without its complexities. Allegations of child sexual abuse continue to cast a shadow, sparking ongoing debates about separating the artist from the art. The intense media scrutiny he faced throughout his life further complicates the public perception of him. So, it gladdens my heart that a biopic ‘Michael’ is in the works which has his nephew Jaafar Jackson portraying him, as it would serve as an insight into the man and the genius behind his wonders.
Michael Jackson’s impact remains undeniable. Fifteen years later, his music continues to dominate charts, his dance moves are replicated on TikTok, and his fashion choices inspire new trends. His legacy is a complex tapestry woven with innovation, social commentary, and undeniable talent. The conversation around Michael Jackson will continue to the ends of time but one thing remains clear, his influence on music, fashion, and social justice will shape the cultural landscape forever.
Ultimately, Michael Jackson’s legacy is a reminder that even the most iconic figures leave behind a multifaceted impact on the world.
