Asake Early Life and Career

Ahmed Ololade Asake, a singer, performer, songwriter, media personality, and musician, was born on January 13th in Lagos State, Nigeria, to Mr. and Mrs. Ololade. He is from Nigeria’s South West area. Ahmed Ololade Asake, who was born and raised in Lagos State, studied theater and performing arts at Obafemi Awolowo University, mainly focusing on dance.

In 2015, Asake began making music professionally. He cites music stars such as Olamide, 9ice, Davido, Wizkid, & Wande Coal as influences. He entered the Afrobeat music scene, specializing in Afrofusion tunes. He combines Hip Hop, Amapiano, R&B, as well as Fuji sounds to create music that is distinct from that of other performers.

Asake began his musical career as a backup vocalist for Broda Shaggi’s band, appearing at various shows and events across the country. He later partnered with Broda Shaggi on the 2019 track “Star.” The song went well in the market, but it was many people’s first exposure to him. As a result, he decided to release his first single in 2020.

With the release of the single “Lady,” Asake made his debut in the industry. He promoted this song with Sydney Talker, Tunde Ednut, NastyBlaq, and Broda Shaggi. The success of the song spurred him to release his follow-up hit, “Mr. Money,” garnering him the nickname “Mr. Money.” He quickly ascended to stardom after he was discovered by YBNL Records boss Olamide. Two other songs that helped him get known were “Mr. Money” and “Sungba.”

He started releasing songs, fusing vibrant Afrobeat beats with his own combination of singing and quick freestyling. Following early singles like “Ayeeza” and “Kanipe,” he released “Lady” in 2020, effectively igniting his career. The reach of the song was expanded as a result of references from more well-known influencers like Broda Shaggi and Tunde Ednut. He then followed it up with “Mr. Money,” which went on to become one of his signature songs. “Don’t Hype Me” and “Yan Yan” from 2021 helped build expectations for Ololade Asake, his debut EP from 2022.

The EP’s first single “Omo Ope,” which featured Nigerian artist Olamide, became Asake’s biggest hit. All of this led up to the release of Mr. Money with the Vibe, the singer’s debut album, in September. The album, which featured a diverse and wide-ranging blend of influences such as Afrobeats, Fuji, classical elements, and plenty of dazzling pop, gained Asake greater success in the United States, reaching number 66 on the Billboard pop chart.

Despite having recorded songs since 2018, he achieved significant career advancements in 2020 following the release of the song “Mr. Money.” The song was then remixed by Zlatan and Peruzzi. He continued to release singles such as “Medusa” and “Yan Yan” before signing with YBNL in February 2022.

Asake released his debut extended play Ololade in February 2022, which included Asake’s breakout hit “Omo Ope” feat. Olamide.  Another hit single from the extended play was “Sungba,” which was remixed a month later with a verse by Nigerian musician Burna Boy. In July 2022, Asake established a distribution arrangement with Empire. On March 28, 2022, he partnered with Burna Boy and released a remix for Sungba; he led music charts for several weeks.

Asake released his debut album Mr. Money With the Vibe on September 8, 2022, months after the release of his debut EP. Hit singles from the album included “Terminator,” “Peace Be Unto You,” and the “Sungba” remix with Burna Boy “.
