Afrobeats may be the umbrella term for all the indigenous sounds from Africa. But some great homeboys are holding it down for the people and representing well.
There are other unique sounds in Africa, particularly in Nigeria. It is therefore pertinent to highlight these types of sounds. In this regard, Afro culture comes to mind and I had the rare privilege of speaking to an artist doing wonders in this form of music.
His name is KAHN, we talked about his life, family, music, relationship and more in this exclusive interview. Do have a great time on this beat.
Q: So may we meet you?
A: I am Salubi Kevin, a native of Delta State. I was born and raised in Lagos state.
Q: Oh wow interesting. So how did you get into music?
A: My father used to be part of the choir in Saint Mary’s Catholic Church back in the days, and my brothers were always playing music at home it gives them Joy that’s how I was inspired to be a part of what gives people joy and its music for me.
Q: So you are a church boy right?
A: Yes Sir.
Q: Hmmm I see. So what was your first experience with music?
A: We always had Catholic hymns in our house so the whole process personally started from there.
Q: Wow.
So can you describe your first musical gig?
A: Okay I wrote a song for my homeboy back in 2016, so he invited me to perform the song with him then in cross river, when we got there the show was organized by Star Lager beer wow when I got onstage it was like my own O2 arena I can never forget that feeling.
Q: Kudos.
So what genre of music do you do?
A: Afro culture.
Q: Afro culture.
Can you explain what genre of music is that?
A: Afro mixed with cultural feels from the south side of Nigeria.
Q: Oh I see.
Do you create this genre of music or does it already exist?
A: It’s been existing but has not gained the required attention and I am hoping to make a difference.
Q: Okay.
Do you have any idea who invented it?
A: Fide Ranks.
Q: Okay.
Please who is this artist?
A: He is also from Delta state Nigeria.
Q: Alright.
Is he well-known?
A: Yes in the south it is challenging to bring something new to the table so I understand why he might not be well known, but we must all keep pushing.
Q: Alright cool.
So when did you officially start music?
A: In 2015 the rebranding started because I go to some places and they say you sound like this artiste and that artiste and I don’t want to sound like anyone professionally. I have had my sound since 2016.
Q: Oh nice.
So has the journey been so far?
A: It’s been God all the way, you make money from a side hustle and pour it into the music, but thank God we are getting results.
Q: Wonderful.
So do you enjoy the support of your family?
A: Yes since I started they have been supportive prayerfully, financially and even in online affairs.
Q: Nice to hear.
